Jim Turnbull
Continuous Improvement
Jim is an Operational Management professional with an extensive background in the manufacturing sector. He began his career as an apprentice manufacturing engineer within the production machining departments of Andrew Barclay and Glenfield and Kennedy before joining the Supplier, Quality Assurance and Improvement Team at Volvo Truck and Bus Group.
Jim remained at Volvo for 15 years, where he was responsible for both supplier evaluation and performance audits and also for developing the pan-European supply chain to achieve Volvo Group Total Quality Standards.
Subsequent roles include projects on behalf of SBAC, Rolls-Royce, Forfab and a number of furniture, food and other manufacturing organisations.
Jim became an associate of Symphony in 2008 and his key strengths include:
- Mentoring line managers on operational metrics, resource utilisation and process flow
- Managing the cultural challenges in an organisation associated with the introduction of lean business practices and continuous improvement activities
- Lead-time reduction and “Right First Time” strategies targeting overall reductions in work-in-progress
- Promoting and developing the manufacturing scope of supply within a Quality accreditation framework to underpin customer confidence and support sales and business development activities
- Integration of best practice Health & Safety systems
